Fabulous setting, but is it as dangerous as they say?
Like anywhere in the world, if you go wandering on your own in a dangerous part at night, then of course. Everywhere is.
We loved the city. Beautiful, and certainly NEVER EVER felt that it was dangerous. We were wandering in the square with tonnes of people and logically, did not make ourselves a target for pick-pockets.
99.999% of the time, there is no danger. Tourist often bring it on themselves, make themselves a target, by not educating themselves.
