The theme of this international move has been “the big purge”. Room by room, we eliminated things that we do not use. We also set the goal of “no storage” which means leave nothing behind. We are either going to use it in Tokyo, or it goes. The logic being that the boys are heading off to University in 3 and 4 years (scary) so that provides a simplification/downsize opportunity in the very near future.
This is no small feat when we are moving from a traditional big North American home to a place in downtown Tokyo and required a lot bid decisions – primarily around furniture. Over the last 8 weeks we set about selling off a few very big items, like our 10 piece, 100 year old mahogany dining room set.
Which brings me to PayPal and Kijiji. I like classified sites, they are very handy. But when you sell an item worth more than $1K it brings out the pond scum. In this case, the PayPal scammers. Here is how it goes … first they respond to your post with almost the same line every time (I had more than 10 of these):

Which leads to the scam. They will then go into this elaborate scheme which can be broken down into the following steps:
1. They will send you a fake PayPal confirmation email that they have made a payment to you which you will get when they have received delivery with PayPal holding the money in escrow.
2. You must pay for the shipping to get the funds released, but do not worry because PayPal is holding your money plus the shipping fee.
3. You send the money and the whole PayPal email confirmations turn out to be fraud. You lose your money.
The best way to avoid it is in your online ad put at the end “No PayPal payments accepted”. It stopped all fraudulent emails.

Share with friends. These people deserve nothing. On the plus side, we sold everything with only one item on Kijiji. Everything else simply through word of mouth, emailing a bunch of friends and letting everyone know. A friend tells a friend ….
UPDATE: Don’t tell the scammer to look at this blog post. Play with them. Mess them up. But don’t warn them.
UPDATE 2: If you want to avoid this hassle, simply do what I did when I sold a set of chairs the other day. The last line was this:

I’m glad I looked up the emails for my add for the people who responded because both emails were listed as fraud and both emails are pretty much identical for what this article said, except she is buying the car for her cousin, but she will pay me through Paypal.
Hi, I had the same thing today. Though, by the wording of certain responses, I had an idea it was a scam. After Googling the name, I then came across this article. I had just put my cargo van up for sale, same thing, they were buying it for a cousin and their agent would arrange to pick it up. What a strange world of crooked people.

I also received the same email with the name rose williams being used and the same story, what a scam, i caught on right away, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

just received a message text asking to email regarding the sale of my sons dirtbike. Wanted the pay pal info as I never used this service I requested a email transfer. They were not into that as they were in the Yukon. Checked the number the text was sent and it turns out to be from montreal, iristel inc.

Happened to me this morning. Felt there was something not right, so I googled the email address and up came your link. My email from them was word for word! Thanks for putting this out there.
“Madonna” from marmith2000-ro@yahoo.com emailed me about some furniture as well. Unfortunately this is the THIRD fake scan one I’ve gotten since posting the stuff. For everyones information these are the other email addresses attemping this scam. “Lisa Macedo ” lisamadeira111@gmail.com and “Ashley Baker” ashley(ashley) leon.baker2@gmail.com. They even went so far as to use an email from “PayPal” that I have to say was very well done on their part. It had me going for a second. The first thing that tipped me off was the email domain jan5vivian@gmail.com; on behalf of; service@intl.paypal.com.
So this gmail account is sending an “important” message saying I’m liable and could get in trouble with FBI lol on behalf of a large company like PayPal. and the final email is @emailaccount.com like really lol The wording of the message may have been quality but you can only fake an email address so far. I just wanted to share this so people can help protect themselves from other similar sscams.
The easiest way to stop it is to post right at the beginning of your ad (Or a line in) “Will not accept PayPal payments: cash only”

I had a cherylsmoot@gmail.com reply to my ad in a very similar fashion as mentioned in the above posts. ‘Cheryl’ responded to my ad 15 minutes after it was posted. “interested in your ad, is there anything else to add?”. The second email “ok i just wanted to make sure nothing was left out. Happy to purchase at your asking price and do you have a pay pal account, as i will be paying the with paypal and have pick up done from your location as i am away at the moment, so email communication would do best for me now as well. In the meantime, can you send me some pictures? Regards

I am extremely happy that I found this article, and that someone else received an email from cherylsmoot@gmail.com. I was just about send an e-mail for payment via paypal when I had a gut feeling to get the e-mail on google. I had the same exact experience as Jennifer above. I evan asked if she was ok with purchasing the furniture piece without seeing it in person, which of course they were…. Wow! I can’t believe these people exist. Trust Your Gut! If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
Now whatever you do don’t tell them you know. Just say cash only.
That way other people can search google and find the fake email. Otherwise they will just change emails

Same thing happened to me today, with a car on Kijiji. On the first email reply from Kijiji, there is a response link that you can report them. There is a link that says “If this reply is offensive, inappropriate, suspicious or spam, you can REPORT THE USER “. I did do that, but I’d LOVE to scam them back: “Just a $100.00 deposit will hold the item while we get set up.” I think I will play along and see if I can have some fun with it!
The same thing happened to me. I knew it was a scam of some sort…. sentences all run together etc. etc. I emailed them back, I do not have paypal, but will accept a certified cheque (which I won’t— not from them) and suggested they call me. Just trouble.

they are not pond scum,they dwell way further below that. sitting at a computer all day probably making a decent “wage” off the people they scam.we just need to get more information out to people so it doesnt work.
We had the exact same thing happen when selling our piano. The thing that stopped us was the request to forward $1100. to Western Union to pay for shipping costs. Of course they generously added the $1100 to the amount deducted from Mr. Baker’s PayPal account (which was held pending verification by PayPal). We immediately called PayPal and were informed this was a scam, and even though we told the fraudsters we knew is was a scam, they continued to send e-mails threatening legal action. I told them ‘go ahead’, PayPal and Western Union have been advised of this fraud and I didn’t get another e-mail from them.
PayPal assured us they NEVER ask for $$$ to be sent to a third party and certainly never ask you to forward funds to someone for shipping. Seller beware – If it looks too good to be true, then it probably is.
I did a search on ip adresses and who owns these accounts (leon.baker2@gmail.com) and the “internet” tells me its a Sharonda Feagin from Rochester NY.
marmith2000-zb@yahoo.com had me going for a few days,but the second reply had me thinking……who would buy a used 3 ton truck and have it shipped to the philipines without looking at it? One thing for sure,they cant be too bright, the stories they tell are lame.Im sure they could do better than that. They tried the same b s scam from supposedly the Yukon. Buf an Oklahoma phone number came up. Boy dud red flags ever ho up. I tokd her we were seniors not interested in her dealings. Not another word! !they scamming and r plain scum bums.!!!
I received a message from this person today as well with the Oklahoma area code and said, “I live in Yukon Canada.”
I live in the Northwest Territories in Canada. The whole email seemed off so I questioned them on it and they gave me a BS response. So I knew this was a scam. Told my roommate about it and they found this blog so I thought I should add that first they are still at it and second they are not very smart. I live next to the Yukon so I know where it is. Just seemed ridiculous to me.
Anyway glad my senses were correct and that I knew better than to just act on this. Karma sucks, but they deserve what is coming to them.
Felicia Taylor is at it still with the same thing. Immediately fishy. Got a text first saying to email. When I did she said she would send a ‘shipping agent’ and was going to pay me through Paypal with the extra money for her shipping agent, which I was to pay the agent first, then my money would be released by Paypal. Pretty stupid all around.
I lead her on for a while with some questions about how a scam like this works. Who is receiving the money and how are they not caught on camera, having to show ID, etc. She feigned incredulity and told me she would call the RCMP. I said, “Feel free, I am sure the RCMP would love to meet you”.
Humans can really suck some times.

I figured something was wrong,, so i answered with send your friend with cash, but i did tAKe the time to send additional pics,, lol,,asking price,, everybody haggles on kijji… the line that got me was,,,“interested in your ad, is there anything else to add?”. lol..nice try

I posted an ad on Kijiji late last night to sell my cello. The minute I finished posting, I received an email asking “whats your final price?”. I responded right the way and went to bed. When I opened my email this morning, I saw the email replied by the same person at 4:04am. I was wondering where on earth this person is. I sent him/her email again and I haven’t received any reply yet. I am not optimistic.
Then, I received an email from another person early this morning asking “Anything to add or ads say it all?”. Isn’t it familiar? Yes, it is from leon.baker2@gmail.com. At first, he used different email address on kijiji. After my first respond email to him, he replied with leon.baker2@gmail.com. He used a lady’s name “ashley(ashley)”, though. He did exactly what other people described earlier in this forum. He offered paying me in full for the cello. Here is the email that he sent me after I gave him a little more description of the cello:
“Hi,i just want to make sure the ad complete and nothing to repair,i will purchase at your listed price,Payment will be sent using PayPal and i will handle the PayPal surcharge as well.I will arrange with someone to have this picked up from your location once i have paid as i am out of town at the moment.pls send me more pictures (if available) since i won’t be be able to see this in person,what’s the PayPal email to send funds to in order for me to pay you ASAP.”
He kept on sending me emails asking me for my PayPal account. At last, I exposed his bad intention in my last email. He stopped.
All scammers have something in common:
1. They use camouflage – usually use lady’s name to make you feel comfortable, lower your defense and will eventually earn your trust
2. They are not in town – make you mail the item or they arrange someone to pick up the item
3. They do not bargain – pay in full to make you want to make the deal asap
4. They pay through PayPal – push you very hard to let them send you payment immediately
5. They make use of human’s greed and laziness – offer full payment and sometimes offer more; you just have to sit back and everything will be well taken care of
There is no way to stop those online thieves. Avoiding them is the best way. My experience is – be very careful when you see things too good to be true. Be patient, take your time to do some smart research online before committing anything. Make sure you do not send out or let your stuff get out of your door before the payment is securely locked up.

I couldn’t believe how lucky I was that someone wanted to pay $14,500.00 immediatly for my item.. I googled the email address and found all you people! Thanks, people! I totally agree. I have been on Kijiji for a few months and had really very good experiences so far. But as of recently I am selling a pair of rather expensive pre-owned boots and someone from a far away province contacted me, wants them right away for the wife and after a few mails I smelled the fishy aroma
…same story…too good to be true.
So I simply told him, if he wants the boots, only through eBay, that way both parties are safe during the transaction. Haven’t heard from him since…Bloody lazy creatures. If they would invest half the time they spend on scheming, actually working, they would be richer. But I guess a criminal mind is a condition….a way of life.

They are all scam replies. None of them will mention exactly what they are interested in or what the ad said.

Here’s a twist I saw – I just had Virgini Eddy (one letter off the name of a wealth Doctor) and included a picture in the google mail icon that looked like a respectable 50ish woman. Then everything else was exactly the same as above.
I love the idea of signing her into all the spam I can!

Same scam coming from a melanie S. ( amevolomon@gmail.com) almost word for word. When i told her i dont have paypal, to send the money to the shipping company that she is sending to pick up the item and they can give me the cash, she sent another 2 emails explaining how to sign up for Paypal, insisting the transaction has to be done through them.

Melanie S emailed directly yo my personal email though (idiot) and not through kijiji (idiot) so I knew that “Melanie” got my personal email address from the one before because my personal email isn’t in the listing (idiot). “She” wants me to ship it to China. I told her that lucky for her, they make everything in China anyways so she shouldn’t have trouble finding one there.

Yes we just recieved not one but two of these idiots replies. First one is from a John Bernier33@gmail.com also uses Johnbernier2000@live.com then right after him we recieved email from cnderss-zqs@yahoo.com and then her reply was from Melanies S Melanie S [amevolomon@gmail.com]. Best to just say cash is king and if someone wants to buy something of such value it would stand to reason that they would want to come see what they are purchasing so my policy is also to ensure they come and view the merchandise first as well

So its me again, these people are relentless and I have to say somewhat stupid. I changed my ad on Kijiji to say no emails they will not be answered and asked that people phone or text only. So first day was good was not bothered by anyone other then a couple legit calls. This morning my cell goes off and its a text message ..striked me odd because I am in Toronto and the number was from Quebec. Long way to travel for a piece of furniture. They asked me to call her husband or email her and she provided the email address. Keshiadavid@live.com …once again I searched the email address, well look what I found.
Scammers!!! Named used “I am Keshia David”. They responded to a Craigslist add I have for my bunked. Why do people have so much time that they have the need to do this and waste peoples time.

Just experienced the same thing, email wording almost word for word (city different). Red flags were going off! Glad I decided to do some searching. The email address I received correspondence from was joanna_powel@outlook.com (said she was in the Yukon) it started with a text message from 1-864-342-6857 (south Carolina area code).

She then mentioned her “assistant” would come pick it up and bring it to her cuz he lives there and is on vacation in Toronto and I told her to send the money with her assistant and we will make an exchange in person and again she kept refusing! I received some scam e-mails from emsyntire01@gmail.com and exceedinggrace1-a96@yahoo.com and cnderss-ztm@yahoo.com and Jacqueline A all responding to my ad. All responses were the same as what has been reported here. The one thing I noticed from 2 of the responses was that they did not have the typical kijiji stuff at the bottom of the e-mail. It was just a regular e-mail with horrible spelling and punctuation. I responded to the first one and thought something seems strange. I told her that I do not deal with paypal and would take cash or e-mail transfers only. She wrote back again and said she could not possibly do an e-mail transfer because she does not have access to internet. WHAT?!! Don’t you need internet to use paypal? And she is out of the country, so no cash. Alarm bells are starting to go off. Not only that but she is responding to my ad on the INTERNET?!! And that’s when I received the 2nd e-mail identical to the first one. This is when I started to research kijiji and e-mail scams. This is so absolutely irritating!! All we want to do is sell our furniture to someone else who needs it! PEOPLE GET A REAL LIFE JOB!!!!! The other 2 response were very simple. Just asking What is the best price? and Any information?. I thought these were legitimate until I read the stories on here.

I insisted on PayPal because i’m not with the premises to pay you cash and don’t have access to my bank account online as i don’t have internet banking and i can’t go to the bank due to the nature of my job, but i can pay from my PayPal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your PayPal email address so i can make the payments asap for the item and please if you don’t have PayPal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to http://www.paypal.com and get it set up , after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with PayPal so as to put the money through.
then proceeded to tell me that it would be picked up by his transport company.. I didn’t feel good about this so I googled his email and found your site.. thank you so much you just saved us 1500.00 which is what we would have lost

The “wife” msged me from 15144168140 asking if my dining set was still available and started emailing me wanting it shipped right away. They wouldn’t do email money transfer and made me set up a paypal account. They sent the money right away and didn’t tell me they wanted it shipped until the money was sent. The husband kept calling me from this number 5396646516 pushing me to drop everything and go make the payment for the shipping right away. This is what the paypal email looks like. As well as they were over paying me $400 for the dining set.

Selling a custom framed picture and nancyjames@live.com sent me a few emails and text the same thing. She or he almost scammed me but my gut feeling was right. First thing she was real desperate for this item and when I mentioned I had another buyer in edmonton (which is where I am from) asked me to send a money gram to the courier and they would pick it up. Then Paypal would deposit the money. Warning sign was if I live in edmonton and the live in Halifax why would I send money to Houston Bolten in Glendale Illinois. I googled it and came to Michael’s site.

Currently, he is in the Alaskan oilfields and is very happy to purchase a car, unseen, from Toronto, Canada and make arrangements to have it shipped to as of yet, an unknown destination. I have decided to have some fun … will let you know how it proceeds. I am wondering if it would be worthwhile to set up a fake website that could be used to direct scammers to? Is there an opportunity to give them the run around?

First sent me a text in response to a sideboard I posted asking me when the “viewing” was for this item….I thought it was weird, I mean, I was selling a sideboard, not having a funeral. Then I got an e-mail that was exactly the same as the post above, that she lived in Halifax, and wanted it couriered. I knew something was fishy then, I live in Niagara, and the cost of shipping would be more than the asking price! So I googled the address and this came up. It’s annoying, and you feel sort of violated because you give your e-mail and phone number, and now these douchebags have it. I’ve taken my phone number off of kijiji now. The less information they have the better.

I am in the middle of this scam – I’m glad I checked. We listed a trailer in Calgary, Alberta and she called my father’s cell (I posted the ad for him) and asked for us to e-mall. They are going by Amanda Stevens and the e-mail is amanda29296@outlook.com – she claimed to be based out of Halifax, but then referenced CDN money as CAN, which also tipped me off. If you’re from here you know the acronym for Canadian funds. They do provide info for how to ship it via money gram, can we not bust them on that end?

We got that same email today from my husband’s ad on Kijiji in Manitoba from Felicia Taylor. Thank god I googled. We were so close to getting scammed. I closed my paypal account that I’ve had since 2012 just in case although we did not accept anything I don’t feel comfortable knowing they have it.

Just had a scammer try and get me on Kijiji. I was selling furniture and they said they would pay full price, use Paypal and have shippers come get it after I received my payment. They said they live in Milwaukee and just relocated. I live in Ontario. I was very suspicious and asked about the shipping company. They said Air Freight and gave a number. The number is a voicemail and not a business. I told them it was not valid. They said it was and I never heard back. Bottom line, use your gut. If it seems suspicious it probably is.

Good ol’ Felicia Taylor (goodlifehi@gmail.com) just responded to my car for sale ad and because of the “out of town” and “paypal payment only” crap I thought I’d google her name and your thread popped up. I got the exact same email but for my university used books yesterday. The phone numbers they used have US area codes. It was very suspicious, I’m glad I did some research first! I would’ve loved to sell all those books already even if it didn’t make sense why she wanted them haha. Apparently I’m not paying all those tuition for nothing! 😉

After I told her she doesn’t need PayPal info and can just send the money directly to my email (which is partially true cause I have an active paypal account and will probably need it once the transaction is ongoing, AND IF this was not fraud) or via E-transfer which I have done multiple times before and also just requires my email which she already has, she responded:

I got the exact same text. I emailed to have her call me, and a man called claiming to be Lucy’s husband. He says he is in New York, and his wife just got a job in Halifax… I told him I was not interested in dealing with PayPal, and he said he would get back to me next week so he could talk to his wife and bookkeeper about doing an EFT or Wire Transfer as I requested for the transaction. I asked for his name and number, which he gave me. I called the number shortly after hanging up to see if it was a legitimate number, and after leaving a message the same guy phone me back and left a message.
It sure smells fishy, but this guys seems to have covered some of his bases well.

Here’s the messages after I replied it was still available:

Replied again nice try on the scam and no reply… googled the email and nothing came up but I found this thread so must be a new email. i’m sure there will be more on that. i’d love to get my hands on these people lol
I should also ad I think they must be looking to get peoples info. The phone I am selling is on TELUS and I’m selling it for an average price. Theres tonnes of these phones on kijiji, some cheaper. Why would someone want a Canadian phone in another part of the world? especially when the phone is more expensive here?

I have just received a response to the sale of a Jeep hardtop that matches these perfectly. Thanks for this. The email struck me as odd to begin with so I did a little research and a few things didn’t add up, the company he claims to work for does not do offshore drilling, the number the texted me from through Kijiji was a Montana number which was odd since he claimed to be on an offshore oil platform. Then I found this post. Here is the email I got, you’ll notice he claims to have already been in touch with a “courier agent” before he had even had a reply from me.
“Thanks for your response, Contact via phone would have been the easiest means to talk to you but due to the nature of my work we do not have access to phone at the moment and we are also restricted from making calls which is why I contacted you with internet messaging facility. As i work with Canadian International Oil Corp (CIOC) and we are presently on the rig offshore in USA based on the pipeline project.
Does it have any history I should be aware of? and why are you selling if you don’t mind my asking. I don’t mind adding an extra $300.00 for you just to take down the posting. am already in talks with the courier agent company that will handle the pickup and deliver it to my place after the payment has been made.

I too recieved an almost identical email from an Amanda Williams – amanda29290@outlook.com when I posted MCAT review books for sale here in Edmonton. I was suspicious due to the vocabulary used and the lack of fluency in the email. When I did a search of the name, I found this website. I have now sent her an almost identical email back. Same deal with seller out of country vehicle in storage to be shipped with payment held in escrow using paypal or even amazon. Now in buying vehicles or other higher priced stuff, will accept your price and shipping agent will pick up vehicle. I’ve had this scam from both kijiji and autotrader ads. First clue is out of province or country area code.
No shipping, no paypal, not absenent buyers/sellers.

Same exact email as above. First they texted me about my item and asked me to email them. When I did, they responded with the same email as most if the ones I see here. “Her” email:

She said she was from the Yukon (I am from Montreal) but I checked the area code of the text she sent and it was from Miami, FL.
I just got scam by this team or whatever. They texted me from these two number:

I still cannot believe i felt for it. I just got confused because I am a Paypal user and original Paypal email address is: service@intl.paypal.com
The fake Paypal email they send me was Service@intl.paypal.com® when you click on the actual email address, it will in the info page this email address and under other it will show: Paypalservice@accountant.com
I googled the first email address and I found a Teyana Williams on Facebook, she has a million pictures of dollars on her wall and crazy ugly huge eyeballs lol
So, beware of these scammers. Hope they burn in hell wherever they are!

I sent more pictures, but didn’t say anything about price, so I got a quick email asking what my final price is.
I responded with my advertised price, but asked if she had a different offer, saying I might be able to do better on my price if she sent me some referrals etc.
She right away was fine with the price and condition, and wants to know if my email is also my PayPal email. I needed to let her know asap so she could arrange payment, and her shipper would be picking it up as soon as the payment cleared.
Of course, there’s a few really interesting tidbits, like in my threaded view of the email responses, my initial email was sent at 20:34, but when she replied (almost immediately), it showed she had received it at 1:34 am the next day! So if I am in Ontario, that puts her in, lets see, maybe Ethiopia, or the United Kingdom, but definitely over the pond!
So I responded that I much prefer Interac e-transfer because they don’t have such ridiculous extra charges and fees, and she should setup a payment that way, or, if it had to be PayPal, she should go to my payment portal on ShopCity.com.
Nothing since from her, but, I received another text from

because my furniture was urgently needed, and I should call her husband, or email her back at
teyanawilliams11@outlook.com.
I, of course, want to talk to the husband, and texted wanting his number, but no response.
These people didn’t contact me from within kijiji’s ad, as I have the Kijiji app, and haven’t gotten any notifications from it. I suppose this is so that their numbers can’t be reported to Kijiji as easily. Also, both numbers used are from the USA, even though apparently the person is in an entirely different part of the world.
Everyone have fun messing with these scammers!
I just had Webbtomson James and Angelina Paul both texting to send them an email for the dirt bike I’m selling. After telling Angelina that my husband is a police officer and would gladly show some pictures of himself, she still emailed back asking final price and where item is located.

I’m taking the advise I read in the primary post, by adding at the end of the description of the item to be sold that no paypal payment will be accepted, only cash. That should do it!

Last November I was had posted a Kijiji ad for a dining room suite and received a response from an email address of ‘sphilip793@gmail.com. Eventually I got a phone number which was from Oklahoma. They wanted to pay me by PayPal. I declined. Just this past week I got an inquiry from a person called Teyana Williams (teyanawilliams11@outlook.com). She claimed to be living in the Yukon with her husband but the phone number she used was one from Oklahoma. Again, she wanted to purchase the suite using Paypal and they would have courier pick up the furniture. I am pretty sure just from the wording of emails that these two people are one in the same. Reading all the information at this site was of great assistance and assurance.

gives some convoluted story about not being able to phone because of her work and she can’t make much contact etc.
She wanted me to open a PayPal acct and provide her with the email address. I refused to open an account.
Total attempt by her / him to pull a scam. Beware.

Within 2 minutes of posting our oak cabinet on Kijiji we got a reply from “feliciataylor391@gmail.com” Wanted to drop the funds into my PayPay and had a big long story about their sister in Ontario but our cabinet is in Calgary so finding a courier to come and pick it up… request additional pics, but I got strange replies. So in the end and thanks to your post have requested they send a real person to view the unit and a phone call to discuss payment options. I did not trust the reply from the first second I opened the mail inquiry.

I have read so many articles regarding the blogger lovers however this paragraph is genuinely a good article, keep it up.
Missed the biggest one, never click on links provided in emails. Go to the site by typing the address in and or get it from your favorites, bookmarks etc. Emails can appear to be from trusted senders so do’t think that because it appears to be coming from a valid source, you can also right click the link choose copy link address and then paste it into a text document to view it. Typically they try to fool you by something that appears to be valid like http://goodcompany.scammerdomainame.offshoretopleveldomain

Got a text today from 587-800-2928 asking for my email address to send em an Interac E-transfer to pay for a phone that I was to ship to his daughter in Topinabee, Michigan. I played along for a bit an then called him out on being a scam. Thats when the replies stopped lol. Beware.

Felicia Taylor using the email “preciousstone103@outlook.com” replied to my kijiji add regarding a drum set for sell. She used the same story as many others about wanting to gift it to her cousin. We found the email fishy and decided to google her name. We’re very glad we found out about her before continuing on with the payment.
So wish I had seen this sooner 😦 they have well n truly had me. I placed an additional on gumtree for a designer watch. Felicia Taylor emailed me asking for best price. I gave them one. They agreed. Gave me PayPal speech. I then got the email from PayPal saying funds were being till I posted item and sent them proof. So I went ahead and posted the item. Sent the proof. Then got email saying payment would be in my account in 12-24hrs.
Today got an email saying buyer had overpaid £300 and I was required to send £300 by Western union to them.
That’s when I twigged.
Totally gutted. I’m now £160 down and no watch either.
Is there anything I can do????

Just received response for my item I’m selling on kijiji with almost identical posting as above. Name was Rose Williams (as noted several times in other responses here). Didn’t sit well with me, so we googled and found this article immediately. Thanks to the initial person who posted and all those who have posted and updated since then! It is much appreciated!
I even went to the trouble of contacting paypal to ask them about any security/fraud issues they may have heard of or have to deal with. They were not very helpful in this case only reassured me that their website is fully secured. It may be but you would think they would have heard of these scammers before and would give you some guidance to make you aware that people are using their name to steal people’s hard earned money and give you tips on how to make sure you don’t fall for any fake “deposits”! I guess, we just need to google when in doubt and use these sorts of posts to help each other out. Thanks again!

Interestingly PayPal account associated with the above email address is Rose Williams. Getting a bit sloppy, getting different profiles mixed up, too many simultaneous scams, too many profiles.

1) The price is listed in the ad.
2) You can contact me through kijiji, then I’ll ask you the paypal payment through kijiji from a certified account (to get the seller’s protection)

Kevin Varry claiming he lives in Calgary but working in Montana. Replied almost instantly to my post and was willing to have shipped 1000 pounds of commercial shelving. My spidyy senses were tingling as I regularly ship items at my work and know this would be prohibitively expensive but I proceeded. Wanted to pay with Paypal. I do not do Paypal. I offered etransfer. He transfered the money but there was a password. No response to the request for the daughters name. Feeling very concerned I googled his text number and its a known scammer number.
